JANE PAKNIA SOLACE
Landing like an anvil, 'Solace' is the immaculate new single from NYC-based composer and hyper-pop aficionado Jane Paknia. The up-tempo offering bounces off a thudding techno kick as acidic synth bass jumps around a genius note cycle that toes the line between uplifting dance euphoria and something far more sinister. Echoing her accomplished vocal melodies with perfectly imperfect synth lines, Paknia shows bags of personality amongst the electronic soundscape. She explains: “I devote the song to SOPHIE and Alice Coltrane, two artists that were in my heart and on my mind during the composition and who are a big part of the “you” I was so effortfully stepping towards at that time. They were my “solace”, the combo of their names! I really intended for a crying in the club vibe in this one, and to make something so sensitive and pulsing felt like an accomplishment and an alchemizing of the discomfort I was experiencing. Lonely, unsure, but “The dream’s enough to have by my side.” Arriving alongside the announcement of her new EP Millions of Years of Longing, which is due for release via Eat Your Own Ears Recordings on the 6th of June, Jane Paknia has made a massive impact with 'Solace' and we're already gagging for more. -Holly Mullineaux
